Alex’s initial response is connected to fear. He is afraid of a possible negative response from his boss and does not know how to open the discussion and share his feelings. I believe that this is very common in today’s corporate world where many leaders do not care about their employees’ feelings and they only care about results and get things done. However, in this case, I see two great things in this situation:
1. Alex was brave to openly discuss his situation and communicate his needs.
2. His boss was willing to listen and find a solution to the problem.
Finally, the level of empathy that the boss showed is admirable and a great example of EI in the workplace.
